Otis Elevator Korea Co. Ltd. has installed the world’s longest double-deck elevator in the Lotte World Tower, Korea’s tallest building. The elevator runs 496 meters from the second basement to the building’s observation deck on the 121st floor. Using a single hoistway, it can carry 54 passengers to the observation deck in one minute. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Otis Elevator Korea recently completed the installation of the 100-ton traction machine that powers the elevator. It’s the first of its kind in Korea.

Otis installed the 100-ton traction machine in the Lotte World Tower in Seoul, South Korea on Feb. 22, 2016. The machine powers the world’s longest double-deck elevator, which runs 496 meters and can carry 54 passengers to the building observation deck in less than one minute.

“It is a privilege for us to supply our advanced technology to the Lotte World Tower, a remarkable building in the history of Korean construction,” said Ikseo(IS) Cho, managing director, Otis Elevator Korea. “We’re proud to be a part of Korea’s tallest building.”

The Lotte World Tower is Korea’s tallest building at 555 meters. It is expected to be completed this year and will include 11 Otis Skyway™ elevators equipped with special seismic sensors that monitor the building’s movement from wind and potential earthquakes, and can quickly move passengers in the event of an emergency. In addition, Otis Elevator Korea provided 19 Gen2® Dynamic elevators and 17 escalators. Four of the Otis elevators are designed to provide escape routes in emergencies, such as fire.

“The elevators installed in the Lotte World Tower are among the best in the world in terms of safety, convenience, speed and ride comfort,” said, Ryu Byung jung, vice president, Lotte E&C. “Otis’ proven safety record and technological leadership ensure visitors from Korea and abroad experience the safest and most convenient elevator service.”
